Boatie Logbook – Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how MSSW Solutions Ltd (“we”, “us”) handles information in connection with the Boatie Logbook app. You can print this page from your browser if you want a copy.

What stays on your device

Boatie Logbook is built offline-first. In normal use:

  • Passage logs, crew details you enter, GPS tracks, checklists, maintenance notes, Insights and similar logbook content are stored on your device and, if you enable sync, in your iCloud account. We do not host a copy of your logbook on our own servers.
  • Photos attached to log entries stay on your device.
  • Optional instrument data (NMEA / SignalK / AIS) is received by your device from your boat network or gateway.

If you use crew sharing (join codes or QR), information is shared between the devices/accounts of the people you choose to involve. You control who you invite and what you share.

What we (or our providers) process

  • Support email — if you contact us, we receive the message and any contact details you include, and use them only to reply. Email is hosted on Microsoft 365.
  • Purchases and subscriptions — Apple handles payment. We use RevenueCat with a pseudonymous app user id and purchase/receipt metadata so we can unlock and restore Basic (one-time) purchases and Extended/Premium subscriptions. We do not receive your Apple ID or payment card details. That id is only linked to you as a person if you choose to include it in a support request.
  • AI field suggestions — where Apple Intelligence is available, field suggestions from notes run on your device using Apple’s on-device Foundation Models. Related prompts and content for that feature stay on your device and are not sent to us.
  • Dictation — if you dictate (for example into log notes or Watch quick-log), the app uses the microphone and on-device speech recognition for that purpose. You can control those permissions in system settings.
  • Usage analytics — we use Amplitude for anonymous feature-usage tracking, to improve the app. Those events are not linked to you as a person, so we cannot look them up for a specific user.
  • Diagnostics you send us — if you choose to send a diagnostic report when asked, we use it only to investigate and fix problems.

Maps and weather

Depending on your plan, the app may show maps (including Mapbox-backed views) and weather information (including Apple Weather / WeatherKit, and Open-Meteo for wave height and swell). Those features need network access so the providers can deliver map and weather data to your device. Map and weather content is informational only (see our Terms).

How long we keep information

Support emails and any diagnostics you send are kept only as long as needed to deal with your request and related records. Purchase/entitlement metadata is kept as needed to provide and restore purchases. Content on your device or in your iCloud is under your control.

Providers we use

Apple also processes information as needed for the App Store, In‑App Purchases, iCloud (if you enable it), WeatherKit (when used), and system features such as Apple Intelligence and speech recognition, under Apple’s terms and privacy notices.

Sharing

We use the providers above only to run Boatie Logbook and support you. We do not sell your personal information. Crew sharing is between users you involve — not a transfer to us.

Your choices and rights

You can manage purchases in your Apple Account settings and control microphone, speech, iCloud and other permissions in system settings. For access, correction, or deletion requests about personal information we hold and can identify as relating to you (for example support email), contact hello@msswsolutions.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
